I am a civilian consumer who was attracted to Stormforce jackets because practically all other Gore-Tex jackets on the market nowadays have a hood that flops around. I liked the numerous options: hood (detachable, no hood, or, I got: stored in zipped collar), extra pockets (sleeve and radio pockets), and, choice of color that was hard to get elsewhere.
Now that I have worn the jacket: it is sturdy, comfortable, and well-designed.
The 4″ high collar protects your entire neck from the elements, is very comfortable on the inside, and it’s very easy to get the hood in/out from the zippered compartment.
The Oscar version has zippered pockets that you can stick your hands into, more convenient than the (probably larger) velcro-flap-topped pockets on the Alpha version.
All the pockets have high-quality zippers and are securely sewn into the jacket interior. The sleeve pockets (about 10″ x 7″) are roomier than expected. (Rough measurement: I could just about fit 3 Pop-Tart packets, i.e., 6 Pop-Tarts, in the pocket.) The radio pocket could just about fit a 9″ folding saw, or easily fit a medium-sized (1.5″ depth) point-and-shoot camera, with the wrist strap up so you could pull the camera out; this pocket has twin zipper-pulls, so you can zip both up to the top for easier access, or zip down to one side for better rain protection.
